Professor Richard Dashwood
Richard joined Coventry University in May 2016 to take on his new research leadership role as Vice Chancellor (Research) as well as continuing his research as Professor of Engineering Materials. Previously, Richard was Professor of Engineering Materials at the University of Warwick, where he also held the roles of Academic Director and Director of Research of Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), Chief Technical Officer of WMG’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult and was head of the engineering materials and electrochemical engineering research groups. During his time at Warwick, Richard developed a passion for translational research and worked with a number of major companies, including Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Steel, Cummins and Tata Motors. Richard was also instrumental in leading a number of projects with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), InnovateUK, FP7 (7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development) and industrially-funded projects, with a value in excess of £20m. Currently, Richard’s main research focus is the application of mechanics, microstructure and electrochemistry of materials to solve the advanced manufacturing challenges involved in realising low carbon mobility.
