Professor Garry Pender
Professor Gareth Pender was appointed as Deputy Principal (Research and Innovation) in October 2016, previously he was Head of School and Professor of Environmental Engineering in the School of the Built Environment. He is a civil engineering graduate of Strathclyde University, Glasgow and upon graduation in 1984 took up a post as design engineer with Couch and Hogg Consulting Civil Engineers working on a variety of civil engineering projects. In 1989, he joined Glasgow University, as a Lecturer, in the Department of Civil Engineering. In 2000, he moved to the Chair in Environmental Engineering at Heriot Watt University, and was appointed Head of School of the Built Environment in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
